Answers to frequently asked questions about setting up a trust foundation with the ChildInvest Foundation are provided here.
How will the capital of my trust foundation be invested?
We will invest the capital of your trust foundation according to our clearly defined investment guidelines, with the aim of supporting the vision of SOS Children’s Villages worldwide. The investment income generated each year is made available almost entirely to our programs.
The programs of the SOS Children’s Villages are designed to improve the lives of children, young people and their families and to have a positive impact on society. Our guidelines therefore consistently exclude investments that conflict with this overarching goal.
We also place particular emphasis on sustainability criteria as well as social and ethical standards (also known as ESG criteria). We never make investments in securities issued by companies which pursue unethical goals (for example, child labor, breaches of social welfare standards, the arms industry, pornography).
We will happily provide you with more information during an in-person discussion about our investment strategy and answer any specific questions you may have.
Why am I only able to establish a trust foundation with a minimum of EUR 150,000?
A minimum investment of EUR 150,000 is required to ensure an appropriate balance between administrative effort and interest income to the benefit of the SOS Children’s Villages worldwide. This is the only way in which we can live up to our principle of maximizing the effectiveness of our funding resources.
For smaller amounts, we offer other support options in the form of endowment funds, endowments and loans.
Can I establish a testamentary trust foundation to manage my estate?
It is generally possible to establish a testamentary trust foundation, yet it involves various risks. It is often necessary to coordinate things with the tax office during the setup process, for instance. The legal situation regarding tax law or charitable law can also change over the course of time. If the donor no longer has any influence over this, any disagreements could jeopardize the establishment of the trust foundation or its charitable recognition. To avoid procedural errors, we recommend establishing the trust foundation during your lifetime and naming it as a beneficiary in your will.
