What is an endowment fund?
For your endowment fund, you can define a specific purpose and provide targeted support to projects that are important to you. Setting up the fund is a straightforward process that can be completed quickly.
We will manage your funds separately from the assets of the ChildInvest Foundation and invest them responsibly. We use only the interest income for the purposes you have specified – your capital remains secure and is nurtured for the long term.

Further questions about endowment funds
Answers to frequently asked questions about setting up an endowment fund with the ChildInvest Foundation are provided here.
How, exactly, can I define the purpose of my endowment fund?
Through the donations made on our behalf, you support a wide range of SOS Children’s Villages projects worldwide. You can specify a specific country, continent, and/or thematic area as beneficiary for your support. This could mean areas such as education, family support or health care. We will be happy to assist you with the specific details of the support you provide.
How can I integrate my network?
Your endowment fund can also be supported from others: family members, friends or acquaintances can make a donation, however big or small, and thereby help further amplify the impact of your commitment to disadvantaged young people.
How will I be kept informed about the projects I support and the progress of my endowment fund?
You will receive a report about the projects you support once a year. You will learn about the progress that has been made, the challenges that had to be overcome, and how your endowment fund has contributed to the positive developments.
Why is a minimum amount of EUR 10,000 required for endowment funds and loans?
To ensure that your investment has the greatest possible impact on the selected projects, it is important that the administrative costs remain proportionate to the investment returns. This minimum amount is therefore necessary.
For amounts of less than EUR 10,000, we recommend either an endowment to the ChildInvest Foundation or a donation to the SOS Children’s Villages worldwide.
What tax benefits does the endowment fund offer?
The tax benefits of an endowment fund can be superior to those of a donation. This is because an enhanced tax deductibility applies: in the year of the donation and for the following nine years, up to EUR 1 million (up to EUR 2 million in the case of married couples) is deductible in Germany from income tax as a special expense. In return, once your fund has been set up, we will provide you with a tax-deductible confirmation of your donation.
What if I want to allocate the total amount, or part of it, to immediate charitable spending?
The portion of the endowment intended for immediate charitable expenditure will be invested as a limited term trust. For tax purposes, it will be treated as a donation. In this case, the tax deductibility in Germany is limited to 20 percent of total income or up to 4 per mil of the sum total of revenue, wages and salaries. In subsequent years, the remaining amount can be deductible up to the same amount each year.
