FAQ: Frequently asked questions about the options for support that we offer

Answers to further questions about the various support options available at the ChildInvest Foundation are provided here.  

Can I decide how my grant is used?

Yes, with a trust foundation, a corporate foundation, or an endowment fund, you decide for yourself which cause, program, or centers in which country you want to support on a long-term basis with the proceeds from your donation. We will be happy to advise you personally on this matter. This does not apply to income from endowments and loans: these funds are always allocated where the need is greatest.. 

What happens to my grant in the event of my death?

A trust foundation or endowment fund is established in perpetuity. This means that the support continues indefinitely, even after the donor has passed away. With these forms of support, your support therefore has a lasting impact that extends beyond your lifetime.

A loan, by contrast, initially reverts to the heirs in the event of death. Many lenders therefore specify in the loan agreement and/or in their will that the value of the loan should go to the SOS Children’s Villages worldwide in the event of their death.

Can I support the ChildInvest Foundation with a donation?

Yes, you can also make a donation to the ChildInvest Foundation. In this case, we will pass your donation on 1:1 to the SOS Children’s Villages worldwide. For this reason, it is generally easier to simply send your donation to the donations account of the SOS Children’s Villages worldwide, IBAN: DE22 4306 0967 2222 2000 05. Further information is available here.

In this respect, inheritances and gifts are an important exception. Learn more under the respective item.

Can I also support the ChildInvest Foundation with a donation from an inheritance or a gift?

Donations to the ChildInvest Foundation from an inheritance or gift come with a significant tax benefit:
If you donate an amount that you received from an inheritance or gift to the ChildInvest Foundation within 24 months, you will be exempt from or reimbursed for the inheritance tax and/or gift tax on that amount. However, this tax exemption only applies if your donation is made to a foundation and not to an association (see Section 29 (1) no. 4 of the German Inheritance and Gift Tax Act [ErbStG]). 

Can I also name the ChildInvest Foundation as a beneficiary in my will?

It is generally possible to include the ChildInvest Foundation in your will. For targeted support through your estate, however, it may be more advantageous to donate directly to the SOS Children’s Villages worldwide. Further information and details of contact persons are available on the pages on bequests and estates (german).

Will I receive a receipt for my donations from the ChildInvest Foundation?

Yes, you will naturally receive a tax-deductible confirmation of your donation for every donation you make to us.

The only exception is loans: as you can reclaim the value of your loan (at any time), tax-deductible confirmation cannot be issued for this type of donation.

I want to do good for children, but I’m looking for the right kind of approach and project. How can the ChildInvest Foundation help me with this?

We will help you find the right approach for your support. Our experienced foundation advisors will help you choose a project that aligns with your values and ideas. Through the international programs of the SOS Children’s Villages worldwide, you can support a particular country or a cause such as education, equal opportunity, or the empowerment of young women and girls. This means you can track the impact of your support and you will receive an annual report on the progress of your project.
