The impact of our work

How we measure success

The goal of the ChildInvest Foundation is to provide long-term support to disadvantaged children and young people in over 130 countries. In this respect, what matters most are solutions that are effective in the long term. Our goal is to provide support to young people and their communities so they can actively shape a self-determined future. It is therefore particularly important to us to regularly assess the quality of the SOS Children’s Villages projects we support around the world. The results help us optimize our projects while ensuring transparency for our donors at the same time.

The new standard for measuring impact: SROI

We use the Social Return on Investment (SROI) as the key indicator for the effectiveness of our work. This measures and quantifies the social, environmental, and economic value of our project work. An impressive example of the lasting impact of the work we fund is the SROI of the projects in Ethiopia and Swaziland: every euro invested there generates a benefit of four and six euros, respectively. Please feel free to contact us for further information about how we measure our impact.

Impressive measurement of success through long-term studies

According to a long-term study of 3,450 children and young people who received support from SOS Children’s Villages between 1987 and 2017, 90 percent of the assessed projects scored good to very good on all success indicators. This provides important proof of the lasting positive changes that our support work brings about.

Dedicated to transparency

Effectiveness and transparency – we believe these two core values to go hand in hand. That is why, for us, publishing our annual financial statements and reports on the results and progress of the projects we support is simply a matter of course.

Further questions about the impact and reach of our work

Answers to frequently asked questions about the impact of your support to the ChildInvest Foundation are available here.

Is it really possible to measure the projects’ success?

To ensure the success of the funded projects from the participants’ perspective, they are asked to provide their feedback. This concerns their individual perceptions regarding eight key indicators:
the stability of the family environment, access to food, security of accommodation, physical health, education and training, income, safety and social inclusion, as well as social and emotional well-being.
Respondents rate their personal situation in terms of each indicator on a scale.

Can I also support projects in Germany through the ChildInvest Foundation?

No, our program only supports the international programs of the SOS Children’s Villages worldwide in over 130 countries outside Germany. A detailed overview of the countries in which we provide financial support with your help is available here.
